IPL Code of Conduct Breaches: Faf du Plessis and Sam Curran Fined

In a recent development, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Faf du Plessis has been fined INR 12 lac for violating the IPL's Code of Conduct. The offense pertains to over-rate breaches during the match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens. This was RCB's first over-rate offense of the season.

Meanwhile, during Punjab Kings' home game against Gujarat Titans, host skipper Sam Curran was fined 50 percent of his match fees for a Level 1 offense under Article 2.8 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. This article refers to "showing dissent at an umpire's decision."

Article 2.8 includes the following specific actions:

(a) Excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire's decision
(b) An obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket
(c) Shaking the head
(d) Pointing or looking at the inside edge when given out LBW
(e) Pointing to the pad or rubbing the shoulder when caught behind
(f) Snatching the cap from the Umpire
(g) Requesting a referral to the TV Umpire (other than in the context of a legitimate request for a referral as may be permitted in such Match)
(h) Arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision

In an official release, BCCI/IPL stated that Curran admitted to the offense and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is "final and binding."
