Bangladesh's pace bowler Ebadot Hossain has been ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to be held in the USA and West Indies from June this year. The decision was made after it became clear that Hossain would not be able to recover from his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury in time for the tournament.

Hossain sustained the injury during Bangladesh's home series against Afghanistan in July 2023 when he collided with an umpire while bowling. He underwent surgery in August of the same year and has been undergoing rehabilitation since then.

Initially, Hossain was hopeful of making a comeback before the World Cup, but Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief physician Debashish Chowdhury has confirmed that it is not possible.

"No way (Ebadot can make a comeback before the World T20). We are not even thinking about it," Chowdhury told Cricbuzz.

Chowdhury explained that the recovery time for an ACL injury is typically eight to 12 months, and Hossain's surgery was only performed in December. This means that he will not be able to make a comeback until October at the earliest.

The news of Hossain's absence is a blow to Bangladesh's hopes of performing well in the T20 World Cup. He has been a key member of the team in recent years, and his pace and swing bowling will be missed.

However, there is some positive news for Bangladesh. Chowdhury has said that injured duo Soumya Sarkar and Taijul Islam are likely to be available before the home series against Zimbabwe in May. This series will mark the start of Bangladesh's preparation for the T20 World Cup.

Sarkar sustained a knee injury during the third ODI against Sri Lanka, while Taijul injured his knee while fielding in the opening Test of the two-match series. Both players are currently undergoing rehabilitation, and Chowdhury is hopeful that they will be fit in time for the Zimbabwe series.

The T20 World Cup is a major tournament, and Bangladesh will be hoping to perform well. The absence of Hossain is a setback, but the team will be boosted by the return of Sarkar and Taijul.
